The race to the MLB playoffs is on!

* Now that Labor Day has come and gone, it is time to start paying real close attention to MLB standings. Sure, some of us have been "Scoreboard watching" since back in May, but NOW we actually have a reason to do it. The Chicago Cubs enter tonights game vs the Houston Astros leading the 2nd place Milwaukee Brewers by 4.5 games. The Cubs have 24 games left, the Brewers have 25. The Cubs have 8 remaining home games and 16(!) remaining road games, while the Brewers have a MUCH friendlier 15 remaining home games and only 10 left on the road. Not to mention the fact that these two teams will still go head to head 6 times, and it's easy to see why I believe it's going to be a fantastic race for the Division Title.
* Although the Fighting Illini did lose to Missouri on Saturday night, I believe they will still have a very good season. The passing game looks tremendous, and I believe with the depth at running back our ground game will soon get going. Our defensive backs played well, but our D-line AND linebackers are really going to have to step it up.
* Only 5 days left 'til the wife and I head to Indy for Colts vs. Bears. Here's hoping for a good game and a Bears win. I will post some pics of the game sometime Monday evening.
*Had a great time at The Biggest C and J-Hova's house Saturday night. Nothing like an evening of cold drinks, good food, a game or 2 or 10 of washers, and great friends. Can't wait to do it again!!

MARMOL IS THE BEST EVER!

Literally, Carlos Marmol is currently on pace to set the all time record for least hits allowed per nine innings of work. As of 9/2/08 Carlos is holding tight at an astounding 3.86 hits per nine. The minimum 50 innings pitched has been easily exceeded by Marmol who before tonights game had pitched in 74.2. The record is held by Eric Gagne of the Brewers at 4.04 hits per nine. Carlos is the best up and coming relief pitcher in the league, making seasoned veterans buckle and check swing as if the ball was controlled by some high tech remote device. Hopefully this kind of pitching will remain effective throughout the remainder of the season and on through the playoffs!!! -Stat provided by Bob and Len! GO CUBBIES!!!!! Love the Blog Matt!
